The Third Teacher: Designing Engaging Infant and Toddler Environments
Discover how to transform your classroom into a nurturing, intentional “third teacher” that supports early development from birth to age three. This presentation will explore evidence-based principles for arranging infant and toddler spaces, focusing on creating a balance between safety, sensory engagement, and independent exploration. Attendees will learn to design distinct, accessible learning zones, choose appropriate furniture to encourage motor development, and utilize low shelving to foster independence. We will also discuss strategies for creating cozy, home-like areas, effective room traffic flow, and incorporating family-focused elements to make the classroom a welcoming community.
