History

The Lake County Coalition is among 31 organizations in Florida established by state legislation in 2000 through the School Readiness Act. The Coalition provides a variety of innovative early childhood education and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten for children ranging from birth to age five, as well as after school programs for children to age twelve.

The Coalition contracted with LifeStream’s Child Care Choice Services for several years to provide child care resources and referrals for families in Lake County. CCCS worked directly with child care providers to oversee the reimbursement process for school readiness and VPK services, attendance monitoring, health reviews, developmental screenings and assessments, ongoing provider support and training, as well as technical assistance as needed. In addition to helping parents find child care services, the staff of CCCS also provided case management and family support for their clients. Child Care Choice Services also worked with parents to determine eligibility for subsidized child care. This School Readiness program is designed to provide financial assistance to parents for child care while striving to become self-sufficient. The program is based on family income and family size as determined by the federal income poverty guidelines.

On October 1, 2010 the Coalition’s Board of Directors decided to transition all the services for school readiness and VPK to the Coalition. As a result of the transition, the CCCS staff became ELC employees and formed the “Family Services Department” . The transition of staff and programmatic services produced a more efficient and streamline approach to serving Lake County’s children and families all under one roof. Parents can come to the office to see the Family Services Specialists, and receive child care resource and referrals for a variety of services throughout the community. The Family Services Specialists assist parents in locating a quality child care facility for infant and toddlers through the school readiness program. The Coalition’s onsite SR/VPK Compliance Director can assist parents with eligibility and locations of current VPK providers whether they are looking for a public school or private child care facility doing the VPK program.
